He pursued additional training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Loma Linda University Medical Center and completed his residency in 1994. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Serrano is a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association and the Bexar County Medical Society. He has served as Chief of service for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at CHRISTUS St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas and Park Place Medical Center.

16 Years Experience

In 1994, Dr. Serrano and his wife, Cristina, moved from California to the Texas Gulf Coast to begin a solo practice in Port Arthur, which proved to be a wonderful city to live and work as he delivered more than 3,000 babies in the community. In November 2009, Dr. Serrano and his family moved to San Antonio to open a second private practice in Stone Oak after two hurricanes made him reevaluate living 5 feet above sea level.

Hurricanes

Hurricane Rita was a direct hit on Port Arthur in September 2005. The city was without electrical power for three weeks and Dr. Serrano’s family was temporarily relocated to San Antonio schools while they waited for the city to reopen.

Hurricane Ike struck three years later in September 2008. Once again the family was evacuated and the city was closed. Dr. Serrano’s home and office building survived both hurricanes with remarkably little damage. However, the two storms made him realize that he and his family could be happy leaving their oasis home in Port Arthur for San Antonio where he and his wife have extended family.

A New Beginning

The new Methodist Stone Oak Hospital and North Central Baptist Hospital offer Dr. Serrano the opportunity to recreate his small-town lifestyle in a big city. Dr. Serrano lives and works close to both hospitals so that he can treat his patients day and night.

21st Century Technology

Serrano OB/GYN offers 21st century technologies including electronic medical records (EMR), and state-of-the-art 4D obstetrical ultrasound equipment. Dr. Serrano began using a quality EMR in early 2005, which has allowed him to have unprecedented access to his patients’ medical information. New advances to his Web site allow patients better access to their own medical information through a secure Web-based portal.
